program note
‘Not(h)ing Everything’ is based on my interpretation of the process of composing music. In the initial emptiness, ideas begin to flutter around and mingle. The endless possibility is quickly stifled in fear but alas, it is too late! Shapes and colors have taken hold and burst out into a playful chromatic dance. Each instrument has its own soloistic moment, culminating in a dramatic bass cadenza. The opening idea then returns, this time proud instead of timid, leading the piece to a dramatic finish.
